The University of Guyana’s (UG) progress in second division cricket continued when they grabbed first innings points from the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) while Everest Cricket Club were just nine runs away from taking first innings points against Police when play in the Georgetown Cricket Association/Noble House Seafoods second division two-day competition continued on Saturday.
Playing at their home ground, MYO fell for 124 in 35 overs with Zulfikar Ali scoring 30, Richard Latiff 21, Abdool Kadir 19 and Imtiaz Pooran 17, the principal scorers. Omesh Dhanram followed up an impressive performance against the Demerara Cricket Club last weekend with 4-13; Dwayne Dodson took 2-3, Royston Alkins 2-32 and Suresh Dhanai 2-47.
UG responded with 199 all out in 42.3 overs. Clevon Hyman hit eight fours in a top score of 60 and he received valuable support from Frederick Pestano 52 with nine fours and Alkins 27. Shafeek Ishmael claimed 4-59, Pooran 2-20 and Parmanand Parsram 2-42.
MYO were trailing by 35 in their second innings when stumps were drawn. They closed the day on 40-1 with Zamal Khan on 28 and Ashraf Ali 2.
At the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) ground, Police Sports Club compiled a first innings score of 191 in 40.2 overs. Sheldon Agard scored 52, which included eight fours and one six and Collis Cort chipped in with 34 while Amir Mohamed and Munilall Persaud each scored 28. Christopher Surat’s off spin won him figures of 5-33 and Garfield De Roche took 2-24.
At stumps, Everest were 183-7 in 39 overs, nine runs shy of first innings points with three wickets in hand. Riyad Sattaur was unbeaten on 51 with eight fours while Yogeshwar Dhanraj made 42 and Rishi Heeralall 27.
