Customers seeking to be serviced at the Guyana Power and Light’s (GPL) Main Street branch yesterday were left standing in darkness for sometime after back-up generators went down or could not be turned on during a power outage.
One man told Stabroek News that customers were left standing unattended in the dark for a long time before employees decided to carry out some of the services manually.
He also shared that efforts were made by employees to plug certain equipment into alternate power sources so as to accommodate some of customers.
Despite these efforts the customer said that photocopiers, printers, and other equipment pertinent to the GPL’s operations were still rendered inoperable by the blackout.
As such, he said, many employees were sitting about with nothing to do.
