KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- Jamaican opener Simon Jackson smashed an unbeaten century in a practice match ahead of the start of the West Indies Super50 tournament next month.
Jackson warmed up for the tournament with a knock of 108 during the first of two practise matches at Sabina Park in Jamaica on Monday.
He faced 130 balls slamming eight fours and one six and is expected to play a lead role in Jamaica’s team this year in the absence of several key players.
The left-hander’s contribution, however, was not enough to lead his team, Lambert XI, to victory over Bernard Jr XI, after the game ended in a no-result due to bad light.
“It feels good to get some runs so close to the start of the tournament,” said Jackson.
“It was difficult to score early on a wicket which assisted the bowlers somewhat. But I was able to settle down and after that things got easier.”
Jamaica will open the defence of their Super50 title next weekend at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
