Deputy Chief Constable of the City Council, Trevor Merriman died yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was rushed by his family after he started to complain about head pains.
Merriman had joined the City Council in 1987 as a city constable and worked his way up to Deputy Chief Constable in 2010. A press release from the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown recalled Merriman as a devoted and committed individual. It stated that his ‘astuteness and continuous commitment facilitated his upward mobility in the organization.”
His wife, Patricia told Stabroek News that her husband was a jovial individual who always had an encouraging word for everyone. “He was affectionate…loving and caring and a good man.” She recalled that early Tuesday morning he began to complain about a headache and then collapsed. She said that her daughter tried to hold him up but he kept sinking to the ground. “Every time we hold him he would begin to fall to the ground,” Patricia recalled. “When I went to the hospital the doctor was honest with me. She said “his blood pressure was too high and he had burst an artery and he wouldn’t make it,” but we still held on to faith…to hope that he would pull through.”
She said that she was married to her husband for thirty-two years. “We started from scratch. We had three children together and he was caring and loving,” she said, mentioning that one day before he passed away he had told her that he was dying. “We grew so close he would tell me everything. I am going to miss chatting with him…we reached that level you know. He told me that he felt like he was dying but I told him that he wouldn’t…that he should have faith and believe that God would heal his kidneys. Now I have to get faith and be strong. He was sick…”
