The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) said farewell to Lance Corporal Eon Blair at a military funeral at Number 49 Village, Corentyne on Monday, a statement from the GDF said.
Chief of Staff, Commodore Gary Best together with other Officers and Ranks of the Force joined Blair’s family and friends in mourning the soldier who died on January 18 after collapsing during a fitness run.
Commodore Best offered personal condolences and also on behalf of the Force.
According to the statement, he thanked Blair’s mother, wife and children for his service given to the nation and said that the GDF valued his service, will miss him and would be forever indebted to him.
The Chief of Staff also indicated that Lance Corporal Blair’s surviving spouse and children will be supported in the future.
The statement said that the GDF continues its investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of the Lance Corporal and when completed, the findings of the investigation will be disseminated to the media.
