Dear Editor,
I wish to draw to your attention a matter which is causing me grave concern, specifically payment for work done by me for the Mayor and City Council of Georgetown. I was requested by the former Town Clerk in 2012 to examine two pianos belonging to the council. The pianos were in a very bad condition and I gave my findings to the Town Clerk along with an estimate for the cost of repairs and my fee for examination. The Town Clerk assured me that the documents had to be processed and they would be in contact with me.
After I was not contacted and could not get in contact with the Town Clerk I tried on several occasions in Novem-ber of 2012 to have an audience with the Mayor and was unsuccessful. Three weeks ago I again tried to contact the Mayor in person but I saw an official from his office instead. He asked me for proof of work done. I had a copy which I took to him on January 18, 2013. I was then directed to the Town Clerk who indicated that there was no record of any such transaction, therefore, I cannot be paid.
I have been tuning pianos for the council ever since Elma Meers was Town Clerk and have never encountered such difficulty and embarrassment to receive payment. I just need to be paid for work done examining the pianos.
Yours faithfully,
Laurie Greenidge
