The Athletics Association of Guyana is looking to fill the post of secretary says new president Aubrey Hutson.
Hutson became president of the AAG after defeating Colin Boyce at the annual general meeting and election of office bearers on January 20.
However, while a number of executive positions were filed the post of secretary was not. That person will be selected by the general council of the AAG in keeping with the International Amateur Athletic Federation mandate.
“We are currently in the process of looking at candidates that are suitably qualified to fill the secretary position,” said Hutson who is also president of the Running Braves Track Club.
According to Hutson the vacant position will be filled in the very near future as candidates applicable to the aforesaid position will be duly interviewed.
“Currently we are putting steps in place to facilitate this procedure. We are looking at qualified candidates that can fill this position with distinction and an interview process will occur with the invited aspirants. The council will then vote on the findings from the consultations, with the successful applicant being announcedvery shortly,” he added.
Quizzed about whether he knew of an injunction filed against the association Hutson said he has not received anything official and it treating it as just simply as anecdotes.
“I have not received any documentation or citation in regards to an injunction that will be filed against the association. Rumors of such an occurrence have been making the rounds but I am treating them as nothing more than gossip.
“I am moving ahead with the mandate of developing athletes but if this unfortunate incident was to be true, all I can say is that people have axes to grind. The interests of the athlete would have taken a back seat to their own self benefit and intentions.”
He added that he will continue with the calendar of events of the Colin Boyce administration as he has no intention of destroying the work done by the former AAG president but to simply build on it.
“The calendar of events slated under the former president will be followed as we have no intention of throwing out anything. I hope to build on the work previously done; the major difference is that there will be a lot more accountability and openness in regards to administration,” Hutson declared.
