Young Warriors and Bermine Cricket Clubs have advanced to the play-offs of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) 2012 Carib Beer first division T20 competition following play last weekend.
The competition was postponed last year because of rain and resumed Young Warriors and Bermine both winning their final Zone B matches to end as winners and runners-up respectively of that zone thereby earning places in the play-offs of the competition.
At Edinburg, Young Warriors beat Edinburg by 21 runs.
Young Warriors batting first reached 165-5 off 20 overs with Gajanand Singh, 85 and Richard Ramdeen, 54 the principal scorers.
The two came together with the score on 9 for 1 and proceeded to put on 99 runs in 12.4 overs. Singh’s innings came off 55 balls and included eight fours and two sixes while Ramdeen batted for 48 balls, striking two fours and two sixes.
Edinburg, in their reply, were kept in the hunt by a fine innings of 65 from 18-year-old Jamal Henry, who slammed five fours and one six from 70 balls. However, only Shafeek Khan with 25 gave any support and Edinburg reached 144 for 7 from their 20 overs. Gajanand Singh, bowling off-spin, took 4 for 19 from three overs while off-spinner Balram Samaroo, took 2 for 26 from four overs.
Over at the Cumberland Ground, Bermine dispatched Police by eight wickets with 4.5 overs to spare.
Police won the toss, batted first and managed 105 all out in exactly 20 overs with Richard Scott top-scoring with 20. Martin Singh and Philbert Willingburg had 18 each. Bowling for Bermine, off-spinner Steven Latcha took 3 for 17 from four overs while left-arm spinner, Eugene LaFleur took 2 for 20 from 4 overs.
In Bermine’s reply, Joemal LaFleur and Anthony D’Andrade put on 57 for the first wicket in just six overs before the latter fell for 14. The two LaFleurs Joemal and Eugene then added another 31 in three overs and after Eugene fell for 10, Joemal went on to guide Bermine home at 106 for 2 in 12.5 overs, he ending on 68 not out, an innings that included eight fours and two sixes.
