Munesh Persaud was yesterday charged with threatening his brother and damaging his property.
At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Magistrate Sueanna Lovell heard that Persaud on January 27, at First Street, Alexander Village, made use of threatening language to Deonarine Persaud.
It was also alleged that on the same day he also damaged two louvre panes and two plastic chairs, which were valued at $10,000, and were the property of his brother.
Deonarine, who said he was seeking justice, told the court that Munesh would usually drink and go home drunk. He said that the man had not been employed since last year. He added that he was afraid of him, since he is a nuisance and had threatened to kill him and burn the house.
Deonarine said he wanted the court to take any necessary actions to get his brother help.
He said that he has tried enrolling his brother in the Salvation Army for him to get help but he added that he cannot afford to pay the fee since he has to take care of his elderly mother.
Meanwhile, Munesh told the court that his brother told him that he had to move out and that he had nowhere to go. He also disclosed that he had been convicted before but had no pending matters before the court.
The prosecution had no objections to bail for Munesh, which was set at $15,000 for the threatening language charge and $18,000 for the damage to property charge.
However, Munesh then said that he had no money.
He was also placed on a bond to be on good behaviour, failing which he will be remanded to prison.
The matters will be called again on February 27.
