A 33 year old miner was last night gunned down in the Meadowbrook home he was staying at the time after a gunman jumped the gate and fired a volley of shots, killing him instantly.
Dead is Jason Wills and he was residing at 1002 Meadowbrook. The shooting occurred at around 21:00 hours. The body was however removed from the scene some two hours after.
According to a Police source the man was shot about seven times about the body. The source said that the man was in the living room picking out DVDs to begin watching when a gunman jumped the fence, flung open the door and started firing at Wills. The two other occupants in the home at the time fled for cover.
“When I hear the thing I tell my friend this is gunshot. When I know that this is not squib is when I heard the rapid fire,” said a man living near to the house in which the killing took place. The man said that he had to take cover to protect himself.
Relatives of the dead man arrived on the scene and were pleading with the personnel from the funeral home to let them see the body but this was to no avail. The man is said to have recently returned from the interior and it is unclear whether anything was taken in process.
A friend of the dead man said that the person with whom Wills was staying in Meadowbrook was a close friend. Police were up to midnight last night questioning the occupants of the home and persons living nearby.
The killing has the hallmark of a `hit’ as in many other cases in recent years. The police have been hard-pressed to solve these.
