Keavon Bess was yesterday re-elected president of the Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (AGBBFF) when the body held its Annual General Meeting and election of officer bearers at Olympic House, High Street, Kingston.
Other members of the executive committee are: Vice-President Hugh Ross, General Secretary Fiona Peters, Treasurer Morissa Sookram, Assistant Secretary/Treasurer Calvin Homer and Organising Secretary Videsh Sookram. There are also six committee members in Compton Bobb, Larry Da Costa, Azam Bacchus, Kirk ‘Chow Pow’ Jardine, Franklyn Brisport-Luke and Melroy Grant.
Bess said yesterday that he was happy to have the confidence of the membership who re-elected him for a second time.
“One of the things that I am pleased with is the amendment to the constitution which would see the body functioning for two years. I think two years is the least amount of time that a team would need to do a good job for the sport. In the first year you need time to see how it is done and get the averaging and balancing of the steering wheel. By the second time around, you know what should be in place and everything should go much smoother,” he stated.
The constitution, which was in use since 2001, gave each executive one term on office which according to Bess when the suggestion was raised to amend the constitution, he supported it.
Bess also asked his executive to work with him as they look to develop the association.
“I would also ask them to attend the meeting and that we work together and I would like for them not to be afraid to put forward an opinion and have deep discussions,” he said.
According to him the paramount interest of the GABBFF should always be the comfort of the athletes.
