The Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) will have its voting rights reinstated after meeting several requirements outlined by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) according to Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) President Sharma Solomon.
Solomon, via telephone told Stabroek Sport that the UDFA was asked to produce documentation showing that all its clubs were properly organized, that the UDFA has an office while providing audited financial statements and having their declaration of affiliation with GFF signed.
These requirements Solomon said will be in place by the first week of next month. Currently club structures and the office relocation are in the process of being executed.
He said once all the necessary documentations have been submitted to the GFF, preparations will be made to have elections next month which will see the voting rights of the UDFA being reinstated.
Solomon, who is acting as president of the UDFA, said he will be contesting the elections next month. According to him, he took over the presidency of the UDFA after former president; Dr. Joseph Haynes resigned from the post.
According to Solomon he is not aware of anyone else who will be contesting the presidency of the association.
Asked what plans are in place for 2013, Solomon said he prefers not to make any comment until after the elections but stated that already two to three tournaments are on the cards.
The Banks Premium Beer Futsal Knock out competition which started on Friday could possibly be followed by a Net Rockers Town Week Knock tournament.
When asked what were his views on the resolution between the GFF and the GFA, Solomon said: “This is a matter that was long overdue but significant damage was done to football in the interim. But I am glad that FIFA stepped in and took action in the interest of the game.”
He said too that given the outcome, the UDFA made the right decision when it refused to take sides in the impasse, but instead chose to promote football in the region which saw teams in Region 10 being able to play football again.
