Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded a landlord accused of stealing a sum of money from his tenant and threatening to burn her with acid, when he yesterday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegations against 42-year-old Kenneth Anthony Reese, are that on February 2, at Alberttown, he allegedly stole $30,000 from Annette McKenzie and made use of threatening language to her, causing a breach of the peace to be occasioned.
Reese denied the charges of simple larceny and making use of threatening language when they were read to him.
Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt told the court that the defendant was previously charged and has a history of threatening persons. He then pointed out that Reese threatened to burn McKenzie with acid.
When given a chance to speak, McKenzie told the court that she has been Reese’s tenant for two months and during that time he has harassed her for money. She also said that on the day in question, Reese and two unknown men allegedly broke down her door after she had just come out of her bathroom.
In his defence, Reese explained that the previous charge that the prosecution mentioned had been dismissed.
When asked if there were any objections to bail, the prosecution responded in the affirmative, stating that the accused has a matter pending in court. He also said that the accused may interfere with the virtual complainant as they reside in the same neighbourhood.
After listening to submissions, the magistrate remanded Reese and ordered him to appear in court on March 4.
