A man was yesterday granted bail in the sum of $10,000 after he was charged with using abusive language on his ex-girlfriend, who had gotten a restraining order against him but let him back into her home thinking that he had changed.
It is alleged that on February 4, at Georgetown Royland Williams made use of abusive language to Stephanie Pollard whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned.
Williams, 49, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Pollard told the court that she has a restraining order against the defendant. She said that because of the order, he had to move out of her home. However, the woman said, she allowed him back in her home because it seemed like he had changed.
But Pollard said the man would curse her out and she is getting tired of him and wants him to move out.
Williams told the court that he makes a contribution to the home. He said that he is a caretaker of a church and has four children. He further stated that he lives at 707 East Ruimveldt.
The presiding magistrate told Pollard that since she has a restraining order against the man she cannot allow him on her premises. Pollard asked the magistrate if she can have him removed from her home, since she had gone to the police but they had told her they could not remove the man and that she would have to get a bailiff from the court to do so. Pollard said that when she spoke to the bailiff, she was told it could not be done that way.
Magistrate Lovell told her to go back to the police station, since it was the police’s responsibility.
The prosecution had no objection and Williams was granted his pre-trial liberty in the sum of $10,000 and was ordered by the magistrate to remove his belongings from Pollard’s home.
His matter will be called again on March 6.
