Alpha Football Club’s acquisition of several top football players netted quick returns with four unanswered goals in its match against Amelia’s Ward, while Western Tigers edged out Pele 2-1 in their feature match during the GFF Super League on Wednesday.
Alpha’s new-look team including national players Gregory “Jackie Chan” Richardson and Travis “Zorro” Grant, registered four unanswered goals against Linden’s Amelia’s Ward Panthers in the opening fixture held at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
Andrew Murray opened the scoring in the 10th minute for the victors. Richardson scored the second in the 25th minute off a penalty as Anthony Abrams found the net in the 56th minute and Travis Grant closed the account in the 79th minute.
Amelia’s Ward, the runner-up in the Kashif and Shanghai (K&S) 2012/2013 tourney, played without former captain Travis Waterton and K&S 2012/13 Most Outstanding Goalkeeper Odel Allicock. The team lost these two players during the transfer period for the new season.
In the feature match, BK Western Tigers edged Pele Football Club by the odd goal in three; Western Tigers scored first after a goalless first half when Gavin Wilson slotted in his goal in the 49th minute.
Devon Millington added his goal carrying the score line to two in the 61st minute. Stellon David responded minutes later by way of a penalty in the 65th minute. David, however, was red-carded for violent conduct two minutes later.
Action continues on Sunday with three games. At Uitvlugt ground, the Den Amstel Porknockers will come up against Amelia’s Ward Panthers at 2pm and at 4pm the Uitvlugt Warriors and BV/TU will clash.
Alpha United will come up against BCC Rosignol United at the GFC ground at 3.30pm. This game was scheduled for the Blairmont ground but the venue is unavailable.
