Lumber yard dealer Lancelot Douglas, was killed yesterday after he was hit off of his All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) by a car that was being driven by his nephew at Bartica.
Douglas, 50, of Lot 32 2nd Avenue, Bartica, was also known as “Terry” and “Thunder.”
His son, Lancelot Douglas Jnr., told Stabroek News that about 2pm he received a call from a friend, who said that his father was involved in an accident.
Douglas further noted that he learned from eyewitnesses that at the time of the accident, his father was driving his red ATV, when he was struck off by a Toyota car before crashing into a nearby concrete fence.
The driver of the car PMM 9343 was later identified as Douglas’ nephew, who is believed to have lost control of the vehicle after driving at the fast rate.
Douglas further said that his father was heading to a vulcanising shop in 7th Avenue, Bartica at the time of the accident.
When he arrived at the accident scene, he added, saw his father in an unconscious state; presumed to be dead. The man was then rushed to the Bartica Public Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. The driver of the car along and two other persons who were injured at the time of the accident are currently patients at the hospital.
Douglas, who owns the Thunder Lumber yard in Bartica, was described as a devoted father who loved to have fun whenever the opportunity arose.
