Rawle Samuels, the man who allegedly stabbed his four-year-old stepson to death at Linden was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a murder charge.
The allegation against Samuels is that on February 6, at Rock Hill Road, Linden, he murdered Jamal Nedd.
Samuels was not required to plead when the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Police Prosecutor Burgett Grant told the court that on Wednesday, the accused and one of Jamal’s female relatives were at the child’s home when he returned from school. She further stated that the female relative ran out of the home, shouting, “rape.”
She added that Samuels then turned his attention on the child and dealt him several stabs about his body. The child was taken to the Mackenzie Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, while Samuels was subsequently arrested and charged.
After listening to submissions, the magistrate refused bail and remanded Samuels to prison. The man, who was handcuffed and shackled, was calm throughout the hearing. He bowed his head when the charge was read to him.
The matter will continue on February 12 at Christian-burg Magistrate’s Court.
