Dear Editor,
As the world prepares for the World Championships, I am eagerly awaiting the announcement of the participation of Americans, Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards and Carmelita Jeter.
It would be a joy to learn of the confirmation of their participation.
It is also my expectation that Guyana will be represented at the above-mentioned event as long as the selected athlete/s, whether locally or overseas based, qualify. Attending prior regional and some international meets should be a booster for anyone who intends to compete at the 2013 Rio Olympic Games with the expectation of standing on the podium.
Taking a turn around the corner, I have read some recent reports in the dailies about the Athletics Association of Guyana (past and present) and I honestly don’t think that all parties embroiled in this situation realise how much damage this will do to the entire track fraternity. As responsible persons, I sincerely hope they all make an effort to meet in a forum and have the situation sorted out as soon as possible.
Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
