MELBOURNE, Australia, CMC – Three players are set to make their international Twenty20 debuts after being named in a 12-man squad to face West Indies in their one-off T20I in Brisbane on Wednesday.
Ben Rohrer, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Josh Hazlewood have all been included in a side to be led by George Bailey, as selectors opted for a young squad with the focus now on the tour of India.
Experienced gloveman Brad Haddin and seamer McKay are two of seven players included from the one-day series which Australia won 5-0 on Sunday.
“Ben Rohrer had an outstanding season with the Melbourne Renegades in the middle order and Nathan Coulter-Nile has shown very good form in all three formats throughout the summer,” said national selector, John Inverarity.
“Brad Haddin and Clint McKay are experienced campaigners and Josh Hazlewood is one of our very promising young pace bowlers who has recently regained full fitness.
“With the Test squad being in India this fixture will provide some more players with invaluable international experience.”
Hazlewood, a 22-year-old quick, already boasts international experience, playing one One-Day International against England three years ago while Coulter-Nile, a fast bowler and Rohrer, a 31-year-old left-hander, have not played in any format.
Aggressive opener David Warner was ruled out with an injured thumb.
SQUAD – George Bailey, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ben Cutting, James Faulkner, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Josh Hazlewood, Ben Laughlin, Clint McKay, Shaun Marsh, Ben Rohrer, Adam Voges.
