Republic Bank is again sponsoring the Mash Steel Pan Competition which is set to start at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on February 17.
According to a Govern-ment Information Agency (GINA) report, this is the fifth year that Republic Bank is sponsoring the event.
Marketing and Communi-cations Officer Michelle Johnson presented a cheque to Culture Minister Dr Frank Anthony, at a brief ceremony held at the minister’s office on Friday. Mash Secretar- iat Coordinator Lennox Canterbury and Republic Bank’s PRO Jonelle Dummett also attended the presentation.
This year’s steel pan contest will start with the preliminary under-15 competition set for Sunday. Canterbury said that in addition to the school bands competition, there will be competitions in the categories of Big Bands, Church Bands, Solos – both Adult and Junior, and Duets.
Dr Anthony pointed out that last year steel pan workshops were held to give the youths an opportunity to enhance their skills and the bank also supported that initiative.
He noted that Mashramani is not just about the competitions, but the development of celebration for everyone to get involved in national life.
Johnson said she was delighted to be at the 5th sponsorship of the event for the Mashramani Panorama and urged the public to participate in the celebrations.
