The US Embassy teamed up with students, staff and parents from Marian Academy to build a recycling shed at the school.
In a press release, the Embassy said from December 2012 to February 2013, the team of volunteers worked together to plan, build and paint the shed where the school’s environmental club will now store plastic bottles. The club collects plastic bottles for recycling and previously stored them in the school. The bottles are later collected by Netram and Sons where they are chipped and shipped overseas for recycling.
The project is part of ‘Guyana Shines’, an initiative that encourages and mobilises communities to maintain a clean environment.
