An elderly man, who allegedly abused and threatened to poison his sister, was granted $20,000 bail when he yesterday appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer the charges.
The court heard that on February 6, at Lot 24 Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Julian Whyte allegedly made use of abusive language to Elizabeth Whyte, whereby a breach of the peace was occasioned.
It is also alleged that on the same day, he made use of threatening language whereby, a breach of the peace was occasioned.
Whyte pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.
When given a chance to speak, the virtual complaint (VC) explained that her brother usually behaves in this manner when he consumes alcohol.
She also alleged that he threatened to poison her and her family. The VC further told the court that she had brought her brother to court for harassing her a few years ago.
The prosecution had no objection to the defendant being granted bail but asked the court to put the relatives on a bond to keep the peace.
The court granted Whyte bail in the sum of $10,000 for the abusive language charge and $10,000 for the use of threatening language. He and his sister were also placed on a bond to keep the peace.
The case was adjourned until March 7.
