The sit-in at the Wisburg Secondary School to protest a mosquito infestation continued for a second day yesterday even as plans are being finalized to fog the institution tomorrow.
One teacher this newspaper spoke with said that they have received no official word from educational officials on the issue and as such the sit-in will continue until they are satisfied.
The teacher said that it was during a staff meeting yesterday that they were told that the person who usually fogged the school visited, had a look around and said that he would be back tomorrow to fog.
It is unclear what the reason behind the delay is or why the fogging of the institution had stopped.
This newspaper was told that half of the student population turned up for classes but by midday, a large percentage had left.
Regional Chairman Sharma Solomon was unable to meet with the school’s administration yesterday but will be doing so today.
He told this newspaper that the issue of vector control throughout the region has been always been an issue.
He told this newspaper of instances where the Region had asked for all schools to be fogged but this was never done.
Stabroek News was told that the issue of mosquitoes has been a longstanding problem at the Wisburg School and since the reopening in early January, there have been two infestations.
