Orin Johnson was yesterday placed on a one-year bond to keep the peace and be on good behaviour after he admitted to unlawfully assaulting a man, who refused to pursue the case against him.
Magistrate Leslie Sobers made the order at the Providence Magistrate’s Court, where Johnson, 39, was charged with the February 11 unlawful assault of Dwain Murray at Soesdyke and for behaving in a disorderly manner.
The prosecution stated that Johnson walked into Murray’s shop to buy cigarettes but the shop-owner refused to sell him and an argument ensued between the two.
“He chuck me and I chuck him back and then he pick picked up a wood and lash me,” Johnson told the court.
Explaining his side of the story, Murray said, “I was at the front of the gate and he asked me to change $1,000 and I refused because he was in a disorderly state. He then went inside the shop and asks the girl to change the money and I told her not to.”
Murray then noted to the magistrate that he was did not want to pursue the matter any further.
After careful consideration, Magistrate Sobers then placed Johnson on a year-long bond for both charges.
