Tariq Saunders yesterday won the boys’ 11 years and under title of the annual Mashramani table tennis competition at the National Gymnasium when he defeated Terrence Rausch in the final by three games to one.
Saunders won 4-11, 11-9, 12-10, 11-5.
Earlier in the semi-finals Saunders defeated Kaysan Ninvalle 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 while Rausch got the better of Nyron Bissu 11-7, 11-3, 10-12, 11-2.
Ninvalle, however won the boys nine years and under title defeating Isaiah Layne 11-8, 11-8, 11-3 in the final.
The other title decided yesterday was in the girls’ 11 years and under category which was won by Salanas Jackman with Nevaeh Clarkston second, Priyanna Ramdhani third and Charlia Webb fourth.
Jackman played unbeaten defeating Clarkston 3-1 and Ramdhani and Web 3-0. Clarkston defeated both Ramdhani and Webb by 3-0 margins while Ramdhani got the better of Webb in the round robin playoff.
The competition will continue this morning with play in the boys and girls’ 13 years and under categories prior to the opening ceremony which gets underway at 11am.
Play will continue at noon with the under 15 boys and girls’ categories with the 18 years and under categories set for later in the afternoon.
