Two goals in the space of 10 minutes from Dorwin Filter and Kevin Andrews in the fifth and 14th minutes respectively yesterday enabled Tucville Secondary to post a 2-0 victory over a gritty St. George’s Secondary in latest action of the Milo U20 schools football tourney.
Billed as a clash of the heavyweights and witnessed by a sizeable crowd, the first half began with Tucville Secondary clearly off to the races as they dominated the early possession.
They were able to score very early when Filter latched onto a through ball which he expertly converted.
Dictating the proceedings Tucville increased their lead through the wily Andrews in the 14th minute.
St. George’s simply could not create opportunities and were constantly under the cosh of the offensive juggernaut of the Tucville outfit as the game rambled towards halftime.
In the second half St. George’s began looking to get back into the fixture and they almost found a way back into proceedings but the neatly worked move was desperately cleared off the line by Tucville’s inspirational captain Shemar Wilson who was simply the rock of Gibraltar in the backline, strategically important and marshalling his troops expertly in the fine art of defending.
Undaunted St. George’s continued to press forward but were almost caught out by the skilful frontline of Tucville, orchestrated brilliantly by midfield ‘hard man’ Wesley Wishropp, who constantly linked defensive duties with attacking incursions perfectly but the resulting raid came crashing off the uprights as regulation neared its entirety.
In the other scheduled results of the day, Charlestown Secondary defeated Christ Church Secondary 2-0 through strikes from Shane Morris and Anthony Bartholomew in the ninth and 60th minutes respectively and North Georgetown Secondary won against Ascension High compliments of a walkover by their missing in action opponents.
