Cocaine amounting to over 300 kilos–equal to just over 661 pounds–was found hidden in a container of lumber at a Soesdyke sawmill earlier today, Crime Chief Seelall Persaud has confirmed.
According to Persaud, the cocaine was found in a shipment of lumber that was being prepared for export.
He said that he did not have all the details about the bust, which was a Customs and Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) and Guyana Revenue Authority (Customs) operation.
Stabroek News was subsequently told that four persons have been detained in relation to the discovery. In addition, this newspaper understands that the cocaine was found in one container and officials are currently searching a second.
