James Krakowsky ended with six wins and a positive spread of 712 to win the Serious Off Roaders Open scrabble competition held Sunday at the Malteenoes Sports Club.
Krakowsky who played a total of 10 bingos (using all seven of one’s tiles at once) throughout the competition, won from Moen Gafoor with Fred Collins took third.
Gafoor went into final round with three wins and a spread of just 85 spread but shot to second place by virtue of a massive win over Leon Belony of a positive spread of 342 and four bingos. Fred Collins managed to hold onto the third place position despite missing the first round. He finished with four wins and a positive spread of 182.
A special prize was handed out to Anand Mohabir, who was adjudged the best finisher outside of the top 10 finishers. Though not finishing on the podium, Mohabir had much to be pleased about, claiming wins over both Gafoor and Belony. He ended with four wins.
The tournament was sponsored by Serious Off-Roaders, distributors of all Arb, Old Man Emu and Safari 4×4 parts and accessories.
The competition followed the Beginners Open that was held the previous week.
Aimed at developing emerging players that tournament was won by Julian Cadogan while his sibling Jenelle placed second.
Julian Cadogan ended with four wins and a positive spread of 397 in the four round competition while Jenelle’s only defeat was to her sibling. She ended with a positive spread of 343. Third place went to Christina Basil who finished with three wins and a positive spread of 290.
