The suspect in the stabbing death of Clayton Jones, a Guyanese fisherman in Suriname, hails from an East Coast Demerara village and was reportedly in the trouble here before he fled to the Dutch-speaking country.
He remains in police custody pending a charge of murder.
The victim’s sister, Wendy Jones, told Stabroek News that based on the information received the two men might have become acquainted with each other while working at the Meadowbrook wharf.
She said that today she will be travelling to Suriname to identify the body, witness the post-mortem examination and make arrangements to have the body returned to Guyana for burial. Wendy also said details about the stabbing are so sketchy that she does not even know exactly where it occurred.
Stabroek News understands that Jones, the 25-year-old father of a two-year-old girl, died on Sunday night. The suspect was arrested soon after.
