A couple of days Showtime and two boxers on the Night of Champions II Card Elton ‘The Bully’ Dharry and Dean ‘Bad News’ Burrell say that they are ready.
Stabroek Sport spoke with both boxers who reside in the United States via telephone and both boxers exuded confidence ahead of the bout. Burrell, when contacted, said he was in good shape. “I have been sparring with a few boxers, but I am ready. My weight is good and I am just putting in the final touches,” he told this newspaper.
The Jamaican said while he knows nothing of his opponent, Rudolph Fraser he is not worried. “I try not worry about people. I just do what I have to do.”
Dean said he has never fought in Guyana and that this would be his first time, but added that he trains with a number of Guyanese boxers in the United States.
Asked what this fight means for his career, Burrell said:”It means a lot. Every fight is important and I just see this as another step up the ladder. It would also be a pleasure being in Guyana and getting an opportunity to see another country really means a lot to me.”
Meanwhile, Dharry will be defending his WBC CABOFE title against Rudolph Hedge of Jamaica. Dharry, in the interview, said he felt good about the fight.
“I did all my hard training during the past weeks so now we are taking it down a notch as we prepare for fight night.”
Dharry said he expects the fight to be a good as fans can expect to see the same Dharry in the ring.
“I will just be going there to fight to best of my ability and try and win.” Asked how he has been able to convince Hedge to agree to a fight after being told that Hedge was not prepared to fight him, Dharry said after making contact with the boxer’s team, they agreed to the fight.
He, however, said it was not easy, but said again he now has the opportunity to silence his critics.
Dharry, who arrives in the country tomorrow, when asked about the difference between his last promotion and this one, said it was less pressure this time around as it was better organized and there are also a few good fights on the card.
Asked about the cancellation of the Clive Atwell fight and its impact on this card, Dharry said he hopes it does not have a negative effect on the card but said Atwell has a bigger opportunity on March 30 when he fights for a spot in the WBC World Cup.
