A Mandy Dainty fourth minute strike powered Leonora Secondary to a 1-0 victory over West Demerara Secondary in the latest action of the Fazia’s Collection/West Demerara Football Association, Secondary Schools competition.
Played at the Den Amstel Community Centre Ground, Leonora was met with stiff resistance as they found the catenaccioesque defense of their able opposition hard to penetrate, evident by the resulting score line.
After being the goal scoring hero, Dainty turned villain shortly afterwards when she was given marching orders in the 19th minute, leaving her team to compete in the remainder of the encounter with 10 players. Despite their unfortunate circumstances, Leonora was able to hold on and take full points, recording their second win and maintaining their perfect record.
The resulting defeat was West Demerara’s second consecutive having lost to Uitvlugt 9-0 prior. On Monday, Zeeburg Secondary was in dominant form as they crushed Vreed- en- Hoop Secondary 6-0.
Leading the demolition was hat-trick hero Margaret Pillay who began the carnage in the sixth minute. She completed the hat-trick with follow up goals in the 36th and 51st minutes while getting able support from Maria Clarke, La Shawn La Rose and Kezia Baird who netted in the 18th, 20th and 38 minutes respectively.
