Magistrate Judy Latchman granted $10,000 bail to a man accused of assault, when he on Tuesday appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court to answer the charge.
It is alleged that on February 16, at Georgetown, Shawn Walton, 40, unlawfully assaulted Robert Benn.
Walton pleaded not guilty to the assault charge when it was read to him.
No facts of what occurred on the day in question were related in court.
When asked by the magistrate if Benn was aware that he had to attend court, Walton’s attorney, Paul Fung-a-Fat, responded in the affirmative. He then told the court that Benn had left the country.
The court then issued a summons advising Benn to attend court.
When asked by the magistrate, the prosecution said that Benn was dealt slaps to his face. However, the prosecution did not object to Walton being granted his pre-trial liberty.
The matter will continue on March 13.
