Minister within the Ministry of Agriculture Alli Baksh, and team continued their efforts to reach out to farming communities by recently visiting farmers in Lesbeholden and Yakusari in Black Bush Polder, Region 6.
A release from the Government Information Agency (GINA) said that among the issues discussed were cattle rustling and inadequate maintenance of sluices and drainage canals and the heavy infestation of market gardening crops by the Diamond black moth.
On the last issue, farmers were told about effective chemical rotation and the National Agriculture Research Extension & Institute’s work on biological control.
GINA said that Minister Baksh and Dr Dwight Waldron of the Guyana Livestock Development Authority discussed plans for developing savannah lands for cattle rearing so as to alleviate the issue of cattle damaging farmers’ crops on the coast.
Region Six Chairman David Armogan, and representatives of the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) and the Ministry of Local Government were the other team members on the outreach.
