Seon Scott, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) linesman who sustained severe electrical burns after being struck by a live wire on the job, succumbed yesterday in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
Scott, 19, of Limlair Village, Corentyne, Berbice, died sometime around noon. He had been a patient on life support.
His death came a week after the accident at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, where he was on duty.
Stabroek News had been told that Scott was about to “belt up” onto a utility post when the live wire hit him, causing him to fall to the ground. He was rushed to the Fort wellington Hospital, from where he was later transferred to the GPH.
A source had told this publication that the wire could have hit Scott after being bridged or if breeze had blown the wire. The source also stated that Scott was working on a normal 110-220 secondary pole when the incident occurred.
Meanwhile, Berbice Branch Manager Ayube Bacchus said at the time he could not make any comment since he had to speak with the utility company’s Public Relations Officer (PRO). He added that he heard of the incident after working hours and as a result he had to speak with the PRO, who would relate to him what had happened.
