Dear Editor,
I was just reading about our President, Mr Donald Ramotar, and Foreign Minister Rodrigues-Birkett meeting with the Vice-President of Surinam Airways, Clyde Cairo, in Haiti.
I am desperate for an alternative to Delta since I travel multiple times from Georgetown to California and have had no complaints about Delta. I have my speculations as to why Delta has decided to leave Guyana behind, yet I’m hoping that our government will lobby hard to get Delta to change its mind, but that may be the subject of another letter.
However, my desperation has turned into anger: On the Surinam Airways website, www.slm.firm.sr/destinations, I was appalled to see, blatantly illustrated for the world to see, a map of Guyana, with the New River Triangle cut off and placed on the Suriname side.
I demand that President Ramotar and Foreign Affairs Minister Rodrigues-Birkett cease discussions with Surinam Airways until they correct this eye-pass – in Guyanese lingo. Our Georgetown-Miami route should be put on hold as well.
I’d be better off begging Delta than flying with such absurdity. I’m sure I speak for the majority of Guyanese when I say so.
Yours faithfully,
Sharir Chan
