The top brass of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) yesterday visited the Bent Street home of deceased national footballer, Colin Edwards to offer their condolences as well as financial support to Edwards’ family to aid in his funeral expenses.
The 21-year old who was a goal keeper on the national team succumbed to injuries on Saturday from the accident he was involved in on February 7.
President and vice president of the GFA, Vernon Burnett and Rawle Adams said that the footballer’s death is a major blow to his family as well as the football fraternity as Edwards was a special talent.
“We came to meet with the family to express our condolences to his mother and the rest of the family, he would definitely be a loss not only for his family but the entire football family” said Burnett.
The GFA boss added “Colin will surely be missed by all and definitely the GFA would miss him because he played most of his football with the GFA as a member of the Fruta Conquerors Football Club, he was a talented footballer and an upcoming star so his talent on the field will definitely be missed.
“We mourn his loss and we want to support his family from the GFA standpoint and we urge his family to stay strong and wish them all the best”.
Similar sentiments about Edwards were echoed by Adams.
Dawn Dover, Edward’s mother, was emotional and inconsolable but nevertheless thanked the GFA for their support.
Edwards will be laid to rest on Tuesday.
