Three men were yesterday charged with receiving stolen tires, but two had their charges dismissed after offering to settle with the complainant in the case.
It is alleged that between November 15, 2012 and February 20, 2013, Majid Khan of Supply, and Jai Singh of Supply, received seven truck tires valued $550,000 knowing the same to be the stolen property of Bagwan Pritipaul.
It is also alleged that during the same period, Aaron Manilall, of Enmore, received 14 tires, valued $1.5M, knowing the same to be the stolen property of Pritipaul.
No further details of what transpired on the date in question were provided to Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, but when given the opportunity to speak, Pritipaul said that he did not wish to further press charges against Singh and Khan, due to the fact that the family members of their families have agreed to a settlement.
He said that Manilall, however, declined to repay for his part and as a result he would go forward with the action against him.
Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry then dismissed the charges against the two men after Pritipaul swore to not give evidence in the witness box.
The prosecution had no objections to Manilall being released on bail, which was set in the sum of $100,000.
The case will be called again on March 20 for statements.
