Four Colombian women, who entered Guyana illegally, were yesterday fined $30,000 or six months’ imprisonment each and ordered deported.
Appearing before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court were Nilly Dallaray Murillo Silva who entered Guyana at Charity, Essequibo on October 10, 2012; Diana Rivasquerrero who entered on August 14, 2012, at Lethem; Patricia Quinones who arrived on October 8, 2012, at Charity and Gladys Solis Cuero who also entered via Charity on January 2, 2013. According to the charges, none of the women presented themselves to an immigration office.
The quartet pleaded guilty to the charges.
Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-a-Fat who represented the women asked that they be deported to Colombia since none of them had the money to get themselves home.
The magistrate then fined the women, with the alternative of six months’ imprisonment if they are unable to pay the fines and subsequent deportation.
