A man who allegedly shot his brother in the chest was yesterday released on $150,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Osafo Yard is that on January 24, at Lodge Housing Scheme, with the intent to commit murder, he discharged a loaded firearm at Samuel Sealey.
Yard was not required to plead when the charge was read to him by Magistrate Leron Daly.
Police Prosecutor Venetta Pindar explained that the virtual complaint (VC) and the defendant are brothers. She stated that Yard had an argument with the neighbour over water during which Yard became angry, pointed a gun at his neighbour and fired a shot which strayed and hit his brother.
She said the VC sustained a wound to the left side of his chest.
Attorney-at-law Dexter Todd who represented Yard told the court that the police have a statement from the VC in which he says he did not see his brother commit the act.
Counsel further stated that the VC no longer wants to proceed with the matter.
However, Magistrate Daly reminded counsel that the charge before his client is very serious and she granted Yard’s pre-trial liberty in the sum of $150,000.
The matter continues on March 7.
