The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has extended congratulations to Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shemaine Campbelle on their recent successful achievements against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka respectively.
Sarwan, who did not represent the West Indies for some 18 months, scored an unbeaten century against Zimbabwe on Sunday in the second One Day International (ODI) while Campbelle also scored a One Day International century against Sri Lanka.
Sarwan, the press release from the GCB pointed out, capitalized on being given the opportunity to open batting after being pushed down batting order in Australia and in the first ODI and the flamboyant right hander crafted an unbeaten century, facing 143 deliveries scoring 120 not out, his highest ODI score.
West Indies women’s team all-rounder, Campbelle, was adjudged the player-of-the-series against Sri Lanka which the West Indies women won 2-1.
The 20-year-old Guyanese right-handed batsman and right-hand leg spin bowler captured four wickets in the series and totaled 143 runs.
She scored her maiden century, a knock of 105, in the second ODI which the West Indies women lost but her fighting knock of 37 in the third ODI saw West Indies clinching the series.
The GCB is of the belief that Sarwan is still arguably one of the most fluent and attractive batsmen in the world and stated that it was delighted that he found some form.
“We hope he will improve quickly and reach the top of his game again.”
The Board said that it was also pleased with Campbelle’s improvement in the batting department.
“She has become a responsible and crucial player in the team and we wish her continued success,” the GCB release stated.
