National men and women’s champions Sudesh Fitzgerald and Hemwattie Amyan were beaten in the finals of the men and women’s singles of the Guyana darts Assoiciation Mashramani Darts Classic at the Clerical and Commercial Workers Union Club (CCWU) last Sunday.
In the men’s singles 501 final Anil Lachhman upset national champion Sudesh Fitzgerald by three games to one in the best of five final chalking up his first lien on the Len’s trophy.
He also won $40,000.
Fitzgerald won $20,000 while the losing semi-finalists Ricardo Madhoo and Anthony Bissoondyal won $10,000 each in the John Fernandes Limited-sponsored event.
In the women’s singles 501 final Rosetta Hiralall edged national champion Hemwattie Amyan by two games to one in the best of three games final.
This event was co-sponsored by Dr. Terrence Joseph and Roy & Sonia Fashions of Stabroek Market and the winner received $20,000 while Amyan received $10,000.
The losing semi-finalists Shondell Hyles and Shabana Ali each received $5,000.
Lachman gaianed some consolation when he teamed up with Lalchand Rambharose to win the Open Doubles 501 event from Fitzgerald and Hiralall by two games to one.
The winners received $30,000 and the losing finalists got $20,000.
In the third and fourth place playoff, Sherwin Greene and Anthony Bissoondyal prevailed over Colin France and Shondell Hinds by two games to nil.
The pairs received $12,000 and $8,000 respectively.
There were also three incentive prizes awarded for special performances. The only maximum 180 thrown in the various events was by France and he won $5000.
The highest check-out to finish a game was done by Fitzgerald (170) and he too received $5000 for that feat while Fitzgerald and Hirlall had the shortest/fastest game of 16 darts earning $5,000 for their efforts.
Special mention was also made of Hyles who registered the highest throw (160) for women.
