Canadian envoy David Devine spoke on the importance of clean environments and recycling opportunities available here in his address to St Angela’s Primary Schools students on Wednesday.
A release from the Canadian High Commission said that the High Commissioner charged the children to play a role in keeping the city clean by spreading awareness and inspiring others to care about the environment.
The mission said the educational visit is further demonstration of the Canadian Govern-ment’s ongoing commitment to supporting the sustainability of various communities in Guyana.
Further, it noted that Guyana Shines is an initiative that encourages and mobilizes communities to maintain a clean environment to address the littering problem that currently exists here.
Guyana Shines also seeks to educate youth in the importance of caring for the environment.
Last year, the United States Embassy brought together diplomatic and civic partners to encourage clean communities across Georgetown, under this initiative.
In keeping with these goals, Devine encouraged the students to participate in activities held under this initiative and to contribute to the future environmental sustainability of Guyana.
