Yesterday would have been the 15th wedding anniversary of the Guyanese woman shot dead in Antigua on Tuesday, according to yesterday edition of the Antigua Observer.
Her widower, Wayne Powell said he had been looking forward to an anniversary dinner to celebrate 15 years of wedded bliss with Susan ‘Sue’ Powell.
An assailant took the life of his 38-year-old wife – with a single shot to the head while she was at work at First Gadget electriconics shop in Heritage Quay.
“I was going to tell her about dinner (Wednesday) night. We do something for every anniversary…I spent the entire night crying. This thing has hurt me so much and our children – they can’t even believe it,” the widower told the newspaper.
The murder has sparked outrage in Antigua with calls for swift justice and the application of the death penalty.
The report said that Susan bore four children for her husband and also raised his now 19-year-old daughter. Wayne, 48, said their youngest child is three years old, another is 10, while the other two are 12 and 14.
Wayne said, “as a Christian,” he has to forgive the person(s) who gunned down his wife but he’s not going to forget and relent in his prayers for peace.
“People will blame this on politics and the economy while all kinds of rumours are swirling but I believe this is more than just politics.
This is a problem with society and the hearts of our people.
And it scares me because this thing could knock on anyone’s door next,” he told the newspaper.
