Richard Gordon was yesterday sentenced to a total of three years imprisonment after he admitted to stealing over $20,000 in items from a boutique and having in his possession two offensive weapons.
However, he will return to court later this month for the continuation of a second breaking and entering case against him, in which he has pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Leslie Sobers, sitting at the Providence Magistrates’ Court, sentenced Gordon to 24 months imprisonment for the offence of breaking and entering and one year imprisonment for the possession of offensive weapons.
For the second charge of breaking and entering, Gordon was remanded to prison until March 22 for the filing of statements.
Facts from the prosecution stated that on February 27, at Samatta Point, Grove, East bank Demerara (EBD), Gordon broke and entered the business place of Karen Archer and stole eight VO5 shampoos, one Shark iron, 37 ladies belts and one pair of female shoes, valued at $20,300 in total.
Gordon pleaded guilty to that offence as well as to having in his possession, on the same day, two knives, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse.
Meanwhile, police say between February 2 and February 14, at Kaneville, EBD, Gordon broke into the home of Gregory Bobb and stole a suitcase containing clothing; a gas bottle, a blender, an iron, a surround sound home theatre system and five pairs of sneakers, all valued in total at $277,000.
The prosecution stated that between the dates mentioned Bobb secured his home and travelled to Region Seven, leaving the articles intact.
Prosecutor Shellon Daniels said that on February 13, an eyewitness saw a man enter Bobb’s premises and leave with some of the articles mentioned.
Bobb was contacted and on his return, he discovered the articles missing. He made a report and the accused was subsequently arrested.
