Pork knocker fined for ganja, remanded for wounding

A pork knocker was on Friday fined and ordered to do community service for possession of marijuana.

Curt Lewis, 19, of 122 Leopold and Breda streets, initially pleaded not guilty to having possession of three grammes of cannabis but admitted his guilt when he heard that he would not be sent to prison for the offence.

He was found with the drug on February 22.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry fined Lewis $3,000 and ordered him to do six months of community service, but he did not leave the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court a free man as he was remanded on a charge of unlawful wounding.

Lewis pleaded not guilty to unlawfully and maliciously wounding Sandra Park on February 15. Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick told the court that the prosecution’s facts were as charged.

Park told the magistrate that she and Lewis were before her some two weeks ago.

Lewis was subsequently refused bail and remanded to prison and the case will be called again on March 4.
