Former Guyana Open champion Alfred Mentore staved off a strong challenge from Guyana’s top ladies golfer Christine Sukhram to win the Ming’s Product and Services Stableford ¾ Handicap Golf tournament Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Club.
Mentore, playing off nine handicap, shot 36 (18) to beat Sukhram, who played off 10 handicap and also shot 36 (17).
The results were determined after it was declared that Mentore played better on the back nine.
Mohanlall “Santo” Dinnanauth placed third with 34 while Patrick Prashad captured fourth position with 33.
Fazil Haniff was Nearest to the Pin.
Thirty six players including Managing Director of Ming’s Products and Services, Colin Ming, battled for supremacy in ideal golfing conditions.
Stanley Ming, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the company was on hand to witness the presentation of prizes.
Director of the company, John Chin, said that it was the second time that his company was sponsoring the tournament and pledged the company’s commitment to sponsoring once again next year.
“Ming’s Product and Services are pleased to be associated with this world class sport. We sell Yamaha Products which are also renowned worldwide,” he added.
President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Jerome Khan said the club was extremely pleased to have Ming’s Products and Services as a sponsor for a second year.
He said the company was also closely associated with motor racing and water sport but was pleased that golf has been added to its sponsorship list.
