COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, CMC – West Indies Women easily rolled over Sri Lanka Women by six wickets to cruise to a 2-0 lead in the five-match Twenty20 International series here yesterday.
They restricted the hosts to a scrawny total of 73 for eight off the allotted 20 overs and then marched to their target off 15.4 overs at the R Premadasa Stadium.
Kyshona Knight top scored with 24 not out off 31 balls while her twin sister Kycia chipped in with 21 at the top of the order.
Seamer Eshani Kaushalya was Sri Lanka’s best bowler with two for 13.
The tourists’ run chase begun in rollicking fashion when Deandra Dottin, promoted to the role of opener, lashed three fours in 12 from seven balls before falling to Kaushalya in the second over at 14 for one.
However, Juliana Nero was bowled by Kaushalya first ball to spark some concern in the Windies camp but the Knight twins put that to rest in a 41-run, third wicket stand.
Kyshona struck two fours while Kycia counted just one in her 37-ball knock, as the partnership killed off any hopes Sri Lanka may have had of a surprise win.
Earlier, pacers Subrina Munroe (2-10) and Tremayne Smartt (2-13) picked up two wickets apiece to cripple Sri Lanka after they opted to bat first.
Only number 10 batsman Chamani Seneviratna made it into double figures with an unbeaten 12.
The third T20I is scheduled for tomorrow.
