A man who allegedly stole one Stihl brush cutter valued $60,000 was yesterday refused bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Lloyd Nurse is that on February 27, at Dennis Street, Campbellville, being armed with a gun, he robbed Darendranauth Sukraj of the brush cutter valued $60,000.
Nurse pleaded not guilty when the robbery charge was read to him.
Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman explained that on the day in question, the virtual complainant (VC) was riding his bicycle to work along Dennis Street, Campbellville.
He stated that the VC was confronted by the defendant, who came out from the bushes and pointed a handgun at him and relieved him of the item and made good his escape.
A report was made to the police who conducted investigations and subsequently the defendant was held and reportedly identified by the VC.
The prosecutor said that someone who witnessed when the defendant hid the article in the bushes, removed it and took it to Kitty Police Station.
Blackman objected to bail for Nurse, citing the nature of the crime and the punishment it attracts.
The magistrate then remanded Nurse to prison.
The matter will continue on March 25.
