Dear Editor,
As I and others continue to be deeply touched by Guyana’s alarming crime-rates, I have to take note of the administrative reshuffle that was recently announced by Police Commissioner (ag) Leroy Brumell. Editor, those administrative re-assignments might turn out to be beneficial and meaningful in the future, but they are only part of the cure.
I am more interested in seeing relevant governmental and non-governmental agencies implement initiatives which will provide Guyana in general and young people in particular with alternative pursuits that will prevent them from going down criminal paths. We can no longer tolerate the present situation where young Guyanese make up such a high percentage of the country’s prison population, while another large cross-section of the nation’s young people cannot find gainful employment.
Yours faithfully,
Morris Wilson
