Alpha “the Hammer” United hammered Rosignol United and Western Tigers to soar to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Super League lead following two matches over the weekend at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.
The two-time National Super league champions swamped Berbice side Rosignol United 13-0 Saturday before humiliating BK Western Tigers of Georgetown 5-0 on Sunday.
Rosignol United proved to be unworthy opponents for Alpha whose Manasseh Primo and Marvin Joseph led the assault.
Primo netted five goals after commencing the goal feast in the 21st minute of play. Joseph netted a hat-trick as Alpha led 4-0 at half time.
Primo also scored in the 34th, 76th, 89th and 90th minutes of play while Joseph scored in the 23rd, 29th and 53rd.
There were also goals for Andrew Murray Jr., in the 57th, Anthony “Awo” Abrams 69th, Gregory “Jackie Chan” Richardson in the 75th and Travis “Zorro” Grant in the 84th.
Alpha, recent winners of the NAMILCO One Love 16-team knockout competition, also proved too strong for fellow Georgetown team Tigers.
National strikers Abrams and Dwight Peters led the destruction of Tigers scoring the five goals between them.
Abrams scored a hat-trick in the 13th, 30th and 42nd minute as Alpha took a 3-0 lead at half time.
Peters then converted in the 62nd and 80th minutes to wrap up the encounter .
Alpha lead the points table with 19 points with one first round game remaining.
They had started the league slowly with loses against lowly rated teams but have since picked up momentum as most of their players are back in the line up.
Tigers have 17 points but have completed their quota of first round matches while Buxton United are positioned in third place with 14 points.
Alpha will play their final game tomorrow evening against Den Amstel in the second game of a double header at the GFC ground.
The first match will bring together Uitvlugt and BV United at 18:00 hours.
The winners of the League will represent Guyana in the CFU Club championship with the aim of reaching the CONCACAF Champions League. Alpha is only team from Guyana to reach to the CONCACAF stage of the competition.
